Algorithm Changes Of The New Year

By Froilan Gauss

The Google Panda release of 2011 was a turning point for the search engine optimization field on the whole. The chief objective of the Panda update was to make sure that search results show truly content rich web pages in contrast to websites that play on the technical aspect of SEO to get good search engine positions.

While the Google Panda release ended up improving the internet landscape significantly, it also had an adverse effect on people who were trying to leverage the holes of Google's algorithms for giving search results. Not astonishingly, the influence of this release was so huge that a lot of SEO specialists and web pages owners are still scared of new algorithmic releases from Google and what they can do to their SEO efforts.

Even so, it seems that earthshaking internet marketing algorithmic modifications from Google are not as common as most SEO specialists providing various SEO services believe it to be.

However, a vast majority of releases released by Google tend to be refreshes of preceding updates. This is visible in the New Year as well. The first Google algorithm release in the year of 2013 was an modification of the landmark Google Panda update. In fact, since Google launched its two major releases in the form of Panda and Penguin, it has been consistently trying to make better the algorithmic releases in a bid to make their effect more measured.

Since the release of Google Panda release, there have been numerous reviews released from Google. The effect is that the way Google gets search results has become better. The perfect example of this is how the Google Panda release ruined the positions of many portals and how the reviews ended up improving their positions. Squidoo is one portal that fits this mold. What this means is that, while fear of new Google algorithmic updates is involuntary in nature, SEO specialists should take heart from the fact that refresher launches are actually good for them. It is less likely that Google will drop bombs like Panda and Penguin updates so often.
